Gorillaz Song Machine Episode 5 is a PAC-MAN tribute!

Gorillaz is, without a doubt, the most influential virtual band of all time. Before you get all up on me for that, Hatsune Miku is a singular entity, not a band, and she is perfect and should collaborate with Gorillaz, obviously. Anyway.

Gorillaz is currently in the midst of releasing their latest project, Song Machine, which involves a bunch of collaborative artists all working with the animated band to make a really cool conceptual piece of music/cartoon/cinema/media that they’re known for. The latest part of this is episode 5, ‘PAC-MAN’, featuring ScHoolboy Q. Which is cool, but I know very little about contemporary music, so I will focus on the PAC-MAN thing.
If you weren’t aware, PAC-MAN is currently in its 40th anniversary year! Which is part of what sparked this wildly creative collaboration. The game originally came out on May 22, 1980 in arcades and quickly became one of the most successful games of all time.
It’s a strange sort of celebration a little out of left field, but also? It absolutely slaps.
