The Gamesmen, Australia’s first, and longest running independent video game retailer, is celebrating 35 years in business on September 2nd, 2017.
From humble beginnings under Angelo Cusumano Snr at market stalls from Caringbah, Penrith, Canberra, Newcastle, Nowra and more, to a thriving and ever-expanding business based in Penshurst under Angelo Snr’s sons, Angelo Jr, Daniel and Chris Cusumano – The Gamesmen have faced many ups and downs in their time, but remain the last independent standing.
“We have strived against all odds and we’ve never given up; it’s instilled in our family and in the entire Gamesmen team,” says manager Daniel Cusumano. “That’s what has kept our business here, and will continue to keep us here in the future.”
“It still excites me to be the underdog, to wake up each morning and take on the big guys – and with some heavy punches too,” says manager Chris Cusumano. “To survive this long in one of the toughest industries – not just retail, but the gaming sector, which is constantly evolving – is something to be proud of.”
“This day is about the pride and satisfaction of a job well done,” says owner Mary Cusumano. “We’ve now got the next generation of family members running the show, which is just wonderful.”
From 11AM to 3PM on Saturday the 2nd of September, The Gamesmen is opening its doors not only to celebrate this momentous occasion, but to thank the customers whose support has been integral to its success. The day will feature giveaways & prizes, in-store specials, playable retro consoles, and plenty of festivities.
