Acer kicks off Asia-Pacific Predator League on 15-17 Feb in Thailand

Acer kicks off Asia-Pacific Predator League; bringing together the best eSports teams from across the region; in a battle to be crowned the eSports Champion in APAC

Team Immunity to represent Australia and New Zealand in the Asia-Pacific Predator League Grand Final in Thailand in 2019

Acer has announced that its annual Asia-Pacific Predator League Grand Final tournament; will be held on 15-17 February 2019 in Thailand; reaffirming its ongoing commitment to the eSports industry.

Hosted by Acer’s leading Predator brand; the tournament will bring together a throng of dedicated eSports players from all over the Asia-Pacific region; including a team from Australia and New Zealand. The Grand Final tournament in Thailand will include participation from more than 10 countries; bringing top-tier talent in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Dota 2. The tournament will feature offline & online events to determine the top three placing teams for both PUBG and Dota 2; who will receive part of the total prize pool worth US$250,000.

The qualifying competition kicked off in Australia and New Zealand on 6 September; and Acer Predator partnered with Throwdown Esports to host the Predator PUBG OCE Open Series. There were four closed qualifier rounds and a final round; which saw over 50 teams compete in the popular Battle Royale game, PUBG.

The top 18 teams that qualified battled it out in a livestreamed final round; via Throwdown’s Twitch channel on Saturday, October 13; to determine which team will head to Thailand in 2019 to represent Australia and New Zealand; in the Asia-Pacific Predator League Grand Final. The winner of the PUBG OCE Open Series tournament was Team Immunity; a large Australian eSports organisation founded in 2003.

The eSports market continues to grow exponentially in Australia. A recent report by PwC found that the industry totalled $8 million last year, and is forecast to grow to $21 million by 2022. As the industry attracts more and more people through its combination of social, streaming and gaming; Acer is continuing to invest in this area.

Acer was recognised as the number 1 gaming PC brand; in Australia and New Zealand in Q2 2018 by both Microsoft and IDC; and also saw a 40 per cent increase in PC gaming growth in Q2 2018.
