Oz Comic-Con Returning to Melbourne For 2019

Experience The Ultimate Event for Pop Culture Fans With Oz Comic-Con Returning For 2019

For the last 10 or 12 years, my biggest dream has been to go to San Diego Comic-Con. The Talks, the stars, the artists, the vendors and the cosplayers. It just seems like heaven.
Since then, multiple conventions have come to Australia, but nothing seemed to scratch that itch. Some had big stars but didn’t have comic book artists or no talks. Or a combination of world-renowned comic book artists and very little else at the convention. I had given up hope of going to a convention and decided I wasn’t going to go to any more… until 2012 when the first Oz Comic-Con was announced. I remember being excited.
This convention shared a name with San Diego Comic-Con and I had extremely high hopes. Walking through the doors at the Melbourne Convention Centre, I was met by an amazing elaborate cosplay of an anime character. Then another, and a Captain America and an older, bald, British gentlemen said ‘excuse me.’ I moved to see Patrick Stewart smiling at me as he walked passed.
I had been at Oz Comic-Con 10 mins and had seen several amazing vendors, seen some of the most amazing cosplayers I had ever seen, and Professor X touched my shoulder. This was the convention I had been waiting for.

The Premier Pop Culture Event

Since that first event, Oz Comic-Con has become the premier pop culture event in Australia. They’ve brought the likes of Patrick Stewart, William Shatner, Benedict Cumberbatch, Amanda Tapping, Billie Piper, Jewel Staite, Jason Momoa and Stan Lee. Just to name a few.
Oz Comic-Con continues to cement itself with pop culture fans. You can expect appearances from film and television stars, comic book artists and voice actors, gaming tournaments and freeplay along with out-of-this-world activations, industry talks and panels, and exclusive merchandise that can’t be bought anywhere else.
Oz Comic-Con also plays host to the Australian Championships Of Cosplay. The most prestigious costume contest in Australia, presented by Spotlight and Brother. It is the first stop in the ‘Quest For The Crown’, a global competition that will see the overall Australian winner representing Australia at the 2020 C2E2 Championships of Cosplay in Chicago.
