Australia’s sporting capital to host region’s best players in interstate League of Origin showdown
Riot Games in partnership with the AFL, today announced tickets are now on sale for League of Legends: League of Origin, marking the first time top-level League of Legends in the state of origin format will be held in Melbourne, Victoria.
The League of Origin pits four teams against each other, in a state of origin clash for the ages! Star League of Legends players from across the OPL, international and OCE community will don jerseys, and compete for their home side, with teams representing New Zealand, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
AFL General Manager – Growth, Digital and Audiences Darren Birch said the AFL is looking forward to the tournament.
“The AFL is excited to provide League of Legends fans the chance to see their favourite players live in action. Margaret Court Arena is a prime location to bring together fans from across the nation and New Zealand for the League of Origin Grand Final,”
Mr Birch said.
Two teams make it through to the grand final, to battle it out in the second annual League of Origin finals series. These teams will face off live, on stage this November 17.
“We’re excited to be taking League of Legends: League of Origin to Melbourne; in what will be second stadium event there this year after a fantastic OPL Grand Final at Melbourne Park. Given their victory in the inaugural League of Origin title last year; the team from Vic will no doubt be keen to show New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand; that they are still the strongest esports state in the region,”
