Partnership enables Telstra TV customers to stream a huge catalogue of movies direct to their TV
The Australian owned on-demand video streaming service Kanopy, announced today they have partnered with Telstra to provide free access to thousands of movies direct to consumers’ homes. Kanopy is free to users thanks to partnerships with libraries across Australia (data usage applies). All one needs to access this catalogue of films is a compatible library membership. Customers with Telstra TV® can now download the Kanopy app and access a huge number of films available; streaming direct to their TV in the comfort of their home.
Kanopy specializes in providing ‘thoughtful and enriching’ independent films, documentaries and educational videos to users. Their vast catalogue includes award-winning films from around the world; (Loving Vincent, Kedi, Cameraperson, Their Finest, Colossal, Man on Wire, Churchill, I Am Not Your Negro); as well as an unparalleled selection of Australian-made movies (LION, The Dressmaker, Jasper Jones, The Babadook).
“The addition of Kanopy; to our ever-growing content catalogue and suite of apps is just another reason why; Telstra TV is so popular with Australians, with over a million devices in market. Kanopy’s selection of free, thought-provoking film, documentaries and TV series; from around the world is an example of how institutions like libraries and media are adapting; to the changing ways we all consume information today. There’s no better time to pick up a Telstra TV, and to check if your library is participating.”
Rebecca Haagsma, Director of Product Development and Innovation, Telstra
“Partnering with Telstra, the leading telco provider in Australia; means that even more Aussies are now able to watch thousands of thoughtful films for free; right from their living room with their Telstra TV. Kanopy’s core mission has always been to provide access to enriching content to viewers. Kanopy’s Telstra TV App and our partnership with libraries across Australia; means people can stream a huge selection; of amazing indies, documentaries, and classic films you can’t find anywhere else,”
said Olivia Humphrey, CEO of Kanopy.
Kanopy only requires the viewer to have a current library membership for activation at a partner public library or university. Queensland is the most recent public library to provide access to Kanopy; after other Australian public libraries in New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia launched earlier this year. Almost all universities in Australia have partnerships with Kanopy, making the service widely available. Plus, public library memberships can be quickly and easily completed online; so non-members can join their eligible local library, and then sign up to Kanopy; at kanopy.com to start watching films immediately.
In addition to the Telstra TV app, Kanopy, can be accessed from leading devices and platforms; including Chromecast, AppleTV, iOS and Android; and can be viewed using your phone, tablet or computer. The service is also ad and commercial free for an optimal viewing experience.
