More esports stadiums are coming. This time, it’s in Canada!

We’ve previously spoken about esports stadiums. First, the stadium in Zhongxian, China then, the one in Texas. Finally, our argument for having a dedicated esports stadium here in NSW. Let’s take a closer look at the latest dedicated esports stadium arriving in Canada.

The Gaming Stadium, Richmond, British Columbia

The stadium will be built in Richmond which is part of the Greater Vancouver Area as you can see on the map above.
Supposedly, the stadium will be “built by gamers for gamers”. The CEO cites his team’s long history with running and participating in local tournaments.

Features

  • A large main gaming stage
  • Seating for up to 250 spectators
  • A gaming area with over 40 set-ups
  • A casual area where players can drop in
  • Full broadcast facility
  • A variety of food and beverage offerings

When will the stadium open?

The Gaming Stadium is set to open in 2019.

Here comes another stadium: our thoughts

To be honest, it’s so good to see more people investing in infrastructure for esports. Personally, having been to several live esports tournaments in the last few years, I cannot express how epic an experience live tournaments are.
I have some concerns that the “built by gamers for gamers” mentality might miss the opportunity to bring in those who don’t identify as gamers. However, I trust the company will keep that audience in mind because if you love games, you want to share them with others ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As for brands, sponsors and non-endemics, the stadium presents a huge opportunity. Local brands and companies will be able to get involved in and support esports. Meanwhile, they are able to reach an audience they otherwise wouldn’t.
