Melbourne Esports Open set to be the “biggest esport event in the country”

Victoria will host the Inaugural Melbourne Esports Open in September. The event will attract the world’s best gamers and thousands of visitors from interstate and overseas. Learn more about what the Minister for Tourism and Major Events announced.

The Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren has announced a deal which will bring the world’s best gamers to the stage in Melbourne until 2022. The event is the result of a partnership between Visit Victoria with TEG Live and ESL. And, in addition to becoming Australia’s biggest celebration of esports, the Melbourne Esports Open expects 10,000 people to attend each day to support professional teams in action.

Additionally, 560,000 esports supporters across Victoria will be pleased with the packed weekend schedule. Of course, activities will include interactive gamer experiences and a huge showcase of the latest esports technology. The Open will be a step towards strengthening Victoria’s credentials in the digital games industry. Also, the Victorian government expects the event to generate $25 million for the Victorian economy over five years.

When is Melbourne Esports Open happening?

This year’s event will take place in Melbourne & Olympic Park. It will fill the likes of Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and the Melbourne Park Function Centre. The Melbourne Esports Open will take place on the first weekend of September 2018.
