Esports stage and free play zone hosted by AEL at Chatswood StreetFair

Esports and gaming are making its way to a local street fair! Bring your friends, family or kids to Chatswood Street Fair on the 1st of September. We’ve got details on what’s happening and how you can get to the Chatswood Street Fair.

Emerge Festival

Emerge Festival is a month-long event run in the Willoughby area on the North Shore of Sydney. There are cultural events, fairs, youth events, art exhibitions, performances and so much more!
The highlight of the Emerge Festival is the annual Chatswood StreetFair.

Chatswood StreetFair

Every year, Chatswood’s main streets east of the station are closed off to traffic. It’s filled up with stalls and activities just for the StreetFair. It’s probably one of the biggest local fairs you’ll find in Sydney given the City of Willoughby includes 14 suburbs.
Highlights of the StreetFair include (of course) a petting zoo, music stages, a kid zone, a concert stage for local school bands, market stalls. And, most importantly, this year, it’s going to feature an Esports Stage.

StreetFair Esports Stage hosted by Australian Esports League (AEL)

While the activity area is called the “Esports Stage” it’s about much more than esports! There will be a free play zone with games like Mario and Tekken. There will also be a cosplay competition and a Forza Motorsport competition.

We’ve had plenty of dedicated esports events this year (IEM Sydney and Gfinity Australia to name a couple). It seems like a no-brainer that esports and gaming should have its own spot at a local fair. Gaming is for everyone whether you’re young or you’re young at heart.

Why you should go to the StreetFair (from the perspective of a local)

Personally, the Chatswood StreetFair is something I have fond memories of since I first moved to Australia as a 6-year-old. The streets of Chatswood are transformed once a year into a place for stalls upon stalls of food, markets, mini-events and more.
The parade is one of my favourite showcases of what the local area has to offer (Full disclosure: I’ve participated in the parade previously ????).
You can spend the whole day there eating, checking out pop up exhibitions, attending events and shopping. It’s one of my favourite events in the Sydney events calendar ????

When and where is the StreetFair and how do I get there?

The StreetFair will be running 10 am – 4 pm on the 1st of September.
Of course, the best way to get to the fair is to leave the car at home and take the train. Trust me, it’s going to be busy! So, public transport is your best bet.
Chatswood is easily accessible by train and bus as a major transport interchange:
